I was once part of an art department and was approached by our employer, saying that he needed a print design of a budget report cover that looked like a million bucks, but didn’t want us to spend much time on it, “Like, Mona Lisa lite”, he said. Got it. Truth is in most cases, it takes just as much time to create something that doesn’t look very good, meaning it doesn’t communicate an idea very well, as it does to create something that works, for everybody, including the budget. As long as the concept is clear, creating a Mona Lisa with all the carbs, can cost the same as the Lite version.
